The Coachella Valley Repertory Theater featured Scott Drier in his “Doris and Me, A Sentimental Journey” cabaret performance at the Atrium in Rancho Mirage on Sept. 8th. He gave another performance on Sunday Sept 9th as the theatre only holds 86 people and it was a sold out show.
Scott Drier has had a long time obsession with the Iconic actress, singer and author, Doris Day. He has this love affair with Doris Day even tho he has never met this fabulous lady. He has watched all her movies and listens to her music daily. He said he even has written a letter to her every day for years.
Scott has an incredible voice as he sang many Doris Day hits. This was the first time anyone has seen this show. They will be performing at the Lawrence Welk Theater in Escondido next month.
Scott sang while being accompanied on the piano by Johnny May. Johnny had many solos during the songs, followed by clapping of an appreciative audience. He and Scott made a terrific team at this performance.
Scott told about his obsession with Doris and how his life has compared to hers in many ways. Similarities in their lives since he was a child. They both found acting and singing by the time they were 12. He said his life has been made better by her songs and movies. She made 39 movies and he named them all in just a minute. He told little known stories about her life and marriages.
He sang her songs in his own style. He stared the show with “Its Magic” and ended it with “Sentimatel Journey”. He asked the audience to sing along with her signature song Que se ra se ra. Scott had his own career and played Will Parker in the show Oklahoma.
This small intimate theatre makes a great setting for similar performances and plays. They also hold Luminary Luncheons. This month the star will be George Chikiris on Sept. 19th. There are only 80 tickets sold for these luncheons and in demand each time. Water, wine and cookies are provided after each evening performance while guests get to meet the artists.
Coachella Valley Repertory Theatre sponsors include Lulu’s and Acqua Pazza Restaurants, Rancho Los Palmas and Steinway Society of the Desert that donated the refurbished piano. Go to cvrep.org for more information.
