The 14th Annual Hall of Fame Golf Tournament and Gala for Big Brothers and Big Sisters was held on January 28th. The golf and the dinner was held at Indian Wells Country Club. Randy Jones, who is in the San Diego Padre Hall of Fame and was the 1976 Cy Young Award Winner, was this years Honoree.

Mike Frizzell, tournament co-chair, welcomed guests. Rick Bradford introduced the 2013 Honoree, Randy Jones to the guests. Both gave rousing speeches. David Greenberg introduced the live auction items and Baseball Hall of Fame, Johnny Bench did the auctioneering job.

Judy May introduced Julie Rethemeier from the Annexstad Family Foundation. Paul Manzi, a former Little Brother and Annexstad Scholar spoke about his involvement with BB&BS. He got a scholarship to college and with his Big Brothers help turned his life around. Kids get help with a Big Brother or Big Sister as they provide a good role model and mentor.

Julie Rethemeier donated 50,000 from the Annexstad Family Foundation to BB&BS. Al and Cathy Annexstad were came to the Gala this year to watch the donation being presented.

There are currently about 80 boys on a waiting list hoping to get a Big Brother. It takes about $1000 a year to sponsor a child. Hundreds of children have been helped by this program to stay off the streets and become good students and have a chance at going to college thru the scholarship program.
