A record crowd participated in the annual Memorial Day event in Desert Hot Springs on May 27, 2013. Special highlights this year were the unveiling of a replica of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and a flyover by a World War II plane.

Music was provided by the Desert Hot Springs Band under the direction of Dr. Brian McDaniel, whose wife Kelly sang “Bring Him Home” during the unveiling of the monument.

A spiritual thought was given by Steve Parkin of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Appearing once more as the keynote speaker was Staff Sergeant Bill Cook.. The wreath laying ceremony was by Senior Chief Paul Eeckson US Navy (retired).

Another addition this year was a community choir, singing the National Anthem and the Battle Hymn of the Republic.

Special guest Riverside County Supervisor John Benoit also gave some stirring remarks.
