The Stroke Recovery Center held its 33rd Winter Wonderland Ball at the Westin Mission Hills Resort and Spa on November 25th. This event is an Awards ceremony along with a thanks to all the volunteers, staff and clients at the Center. Its a celebration of the Holiday Season for all the guests.
The Dr. Irving Hirshfeifer Award was given to Mark Van Laanen and Tony Marchese, owners of Trio in Palm Springs who have supported many valley charities and local organizations. The Ann Angel Award was bestowed on Lori Sarner, founder of Pegasus, where disabled adults and children get specialized treatment by riding horses. Lee Appel and Jerome Angel presented the awards along with being co-chairs for the Ball.
Musical Program was provided by Wayne Foster Entertainment whose band was great with music for dancing. Guests were able to dance before and after dinner. A silent auction was held prior to dinner during the cocktail hour. Proceeds go the Stroke Recovery Center for the many free programs they provide for stroke and traumatic brain injury victims. Volunteers donate their time to continue the programs that are offered every day to clients and no cost to them. This free service helps those that have no place else to turn for help.
The Stroke Activity Center is the only place with free programs individually for clients. The Center offers Recreational,exercise and speech therapies. They also provide support groups for families and daily lunches. Socialization in an important part of these programs. The Center is located at 2800 E. Alejo Rd in Palm Springs. They are trying to raise money to build a gymnasium for further programs for clients. Several donors have offered to match monetary gifts for this purpose.
