It was a great Memorial Day in DHS

Date:

It was a sunny day in DHS, and the wind was blowing gently, cooling the many attendance joining a wonderful tradition the US Memorial Day, marking the start of the summer and upcoming holidays for the kids. A sad, but also a glorious day celebrating and honoring the nation’s military heroes. The Community and Cultural Affairs Commission outdid themselves this year with their ‘Memorial Day Remembrance’ celebration at the Desert Hot Springs Veterans’ Park.

Kelly McDaniels  started the event by singing a fine rendition of the Star Spangled Banners and Pastor Bruce Montgomery gave the Invocation.

George Fisher’s, a Vietnam veteran, speech, “What is Memorial Day,” explained the history  of this day? He also  announced that next year the city has plans to build a Tomb of the Unknown Soldier for this event.

A moving story was told by Bill Cook USAFR; who has lost his son, a brave Marine in the war and was obviously shaken by this remembrance, but continued with the laying of the Wreath.

The Desert Hot Springs High School Band, under the direction of Dr. Brian McDaniels entertained the crowd with playing their award-winning music throughout the event.

As a final touch, white balloons were released in memory of our fallen heroes.

And not do forget the House of Hope serving refreshments and Dot Reed her famous brownies, and all the volunteers and sponsors that made this event possible.
