Wise Steps for Family Unity and Worker Rights

In celebration of Three Kings Day, domestic workers will dress up as the Three Queens and immigrant children will create “foot prints” to send to State Senator Padilla asking his support for household worker rights.

Los Angeles –Three Kings Day is a joyous and fun-filled family tradition.  The men in costume and beard are meant to represent the “wise men” who in the Bible followed a star to Bethlehem where the baby Jesus had just been born, bearing gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.  Families will celebrate the “Tres Reyes Magos” as they are known in Spanish and will ask for two additional gifts this year: domestic worker rights and no family separations through deportations.

WHAT:           Three Kings Day celebration with household workers dressed as “Three Queens”, carols, candy distribution, street theatre, baby Jesus set up, and making of baby “foot prints”, a gift to be sent to CA State Senator Padilla urging his enthusiastic support for the California Domestic Worker Bill of Rights.  A large traditional bread cake (“rosca”) will be cut and eaten by all.

WHEN:          Friday, January 6, 2012, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

WHERE:         Our Lady of Holy Rosary Church, 7802 Vineland Ave., Sun Valley, CA  91352, Auditorium

WHO:             Three Queens, household workers, immigrant families, students, workers, children.  Children of domestic workers will speak about instances during which they spent their holidays away from moms because they were working inside a home or tending to a family employer.

VISUALS:       Three household workers dressed as The Three Queens will bring gifts to a baby Jesus set up in the auditorium.  Children will create “foot prints” which will be mailed to California State Senator Padilla urging his active support for the CA Domestic Worker Bill of Rights.  Children will receive candy satchels with copy of the CA Bill of Rights and will call for their moms to be treated with fairness.  Families will call for family unity in light of so many deportations under the Obama Administration.  Cutting and eating of the “rosca” bread.
