Ready to stand up and stand out for justice despite severe frosts, FEMEN activists have staged a new provocative stunt against the yoke of Russia’s gas giant.

Fearless and topless, the Ukrainian girls took off their clothes in front of the Gazprom building in Moscow, holding banners saying “Stop gas racket!” and “Snub Gazprom!”

One of the activists even managed to climb the roof of the Gazprom’s checkpoint, waving the Ukrainian flag before security guards brought her down. The girl was detained and is now in a local police office.

In this way, the girls voiced their protest against “Vladimir Putin’s gas moguls from Gazprom manipulating European countries that depend on Russia’s gas supplies.”

FEMEN official blog says that the activists are outraged by Russia’s “gas terror” against Ukraine coinciding with the coldest period of the year.

The organization is also protesting against “Russia’s gas pressure, price monopoly, takeover of national gas transportation, and forcing gas-depending countries into dead-born political and economic unions.”

Internet pirates winning the war on SOPA with “Tribler”

Internet pirates winning with war on copyright with new software "Tribler"

The never-ending war between copyright holders and online pirates just entered a new phase. However, this time hackers are armed with the ultimate weapon that may grant them victory.

The new software called “Tribler” is the new weapon in the battle for Internet liberty and does not need a website to track users sharing torrent files.

According to The Raw Story, it is a “peer-to-peer network protocol that enables computers to share files with thousands of others.”

For many this could be the solution movie and music pirates have been waiting for. Essentially it leaves no accountability for website owners.

This couldn’t have come at a better time since Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has launched a second attack in an attempt to censor the Internet.

The bills SOPA and PIPA embattled access to websites worldwide that provided bootleg materials and pirated products like movies and music but both were shelved back in January.

Now the bills have taken a new form according to Reid, and will soon be pushed as cybersecurity legislation.

While lawmakers are dreaming of a censored web, many believe Tribler will be a true nightmare for them.

Pentagon wants $3 billion for the War in Iraq that we thought was over

The American public has been told that the Iraq War is a thing of the past. Even still, the US Department of Defense is asking the federal government for almost $3 billion for “activities” in a country that they shouldn’t be in.

The last US troops were supposedly withdrawn from Iraq just before 2012 began, but after years of a war that abruptly ended this past December, the Pentagon still wants billions to continue doing…something in Iraq. According to the latest budget request, the DoD think around $2.9 billion should cover the cost of “Post-Operation NEW DAWN (OND)/Iraq Activities.”

In a report published Monday by Wired.com, they acknowledge that the funding that the Pentagon wants now is almost as bizarre as the war itself. For nearly $3 billion, the DoD says that will be able to afford “Finalizing transition” from Iraq. Only two months earlier, however, President Obama celebrated the end of the Iraqi mission. At the time, some critics called the ending of the war as more of a catapult for Obama re-election campaign than anything else. Now with the revelation that the US Defense Department still wants billions for a war America is told it isn’t fighting, the alleged ending of Operation New Dawn seems just as questionable as its mysterious beginning.

The annual Art Museum Gala was held at the Museum in Palm Springs on Feb. 4th. A cocktail party was held at 6 pm as guests walked thru a Pink tent area lit with flaming heaters and violins playing up to the second floor. Guests walked thru an Art Exhibit of Exclusive painting replicas in a pink cast. Pink was the color of the evening as Pink Martinis were served in the cocktail area along with wines and other drinks. Appetizers on trays were served to all.

About 7 the Art work was parted so guests could find their table for dinner. The tables were set all in pink with pink flowers and pink covered chairs. A true work of art at each table. The center of the Museum was filled with a bevy of Pink where ever you looked. Approximately 750 people took part in this exquisite feast.

After the meal was served all the guests went downstairs to the Annenberg Theatre. Guests were told that they could be proud of their support as the evening had raised over $800.000. Co-chairs for the event were Jamie Kabler and Helene Galen. Helene underwrote the entertainment by Pink Martini. It was said that she used all her frequent flyer miles to bring them here.

What a treat to have Pink Martini on stage with their singer who was back with them. They sang  different types of songs during the evening. They sang Keserasera, a Doris Day song. A set with Phyllis Diller will be on their next album as they recorded the song in her home. The final song was a Brazilian number when Helene Galen, her granddaughter, Jamie Kabler, Suzanne Somers and others were asked to come on stage and sing with them. Eight members  of the Desert Hot Springs Steel Drum Corp. played in the background while 4 dancers in Brazilian costumes danced thru the aisle onto the stage. The  dancers came from LA’s Maureen Robinson Dance Company.

The Dancers performed a Conga Line to bring the guests back upstairs for an after party with a dance band performing. Drinks were served again with a diverse array of desserts. A night to be remembered by all who attended this extravagant affair.
