“A Heroes’ Welcome” to Feature Former Mayor as Keynote Speaker
Bermuda Dunes, CA. Desert Christian Academy (DCA) is both pleased and honored to announce that former New York City Mayor and Presidential Candidate Rudolph “Rudy” Giuliani will present the keynote address at the 22nd Annual Auction Gala “A Heroes’ Welcome”. The event will take place Saturday, March 3, 2012, at the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort in Indian Wells. The annual auction provides much needed funding for DCA’s Tuition Assistance Program, which allows students from all economic backgrounds the opportunity to attend the college preparatory institution.
“Mayor Giuliani is the ultimate example of heroism, which is our central theme this year,” says Dave Fulton, DCA Founder and Head of School. “We will be honoring everyday heroes from law enforcement, fire and safety fields, among others. We felt Mayor Giuliani was the ideal person to help us do that.”
Giuliani, who ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008, is best remembered for his service to the citizens of New York City as Mayor on September 11, 2001 and in the days after the horrific terrorist attacks. Mayor Giuliani served from 1994 to 2001 as the city’s mayor, and was a voice of calm, commanding leadership during the chaotic moments and days following the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers in downtown Manhattan. He was instrumental is providing steady leadership, not just for the city of New York, but stood as an example to all of America in the face of the terrorist threat. His actions earned him the well deserved nickname “America’s Mayor”.
“We are elated that he will be our featured speaker,” added Mr. Fulton. “It builds on our success last year, with former First Lady Laura Bush delivering our keynote address. Having someone of Mayor Giuliani’s stature to help honor everyday heroes is exactly what we were hoping for.”
Additionally, the event will honor local heroes such as mayors from valley cities and the area’s first responders.
“It is entirely appropriate to honor heroes and heroism, and will provide so many great role-models for the students at Desert Christian Academy,” says Mayor Giuliani. “I am grateful for the invitation, and look forward to helping instill the virtues of heroism and courage in these fine young student citizens.”
Desert Christian Academy’s Annual Auction netted over $375,000 last year which has helped provide children in the Valley a Faith-based, Christ-centered education that builds exceptional students of great character. Some 600 people attended last year’s auction, featuring former First Lady Laura Bush. DCA is hopeful that Mayor Giuliani’s presence will create the same level of excitement, attendance and results as last year’s event, which was DCA’s most successful to date.
Desert Christian Academy, located in Bermuda Dunes, California, is home to nearly 500 students from toddlers to 12th grade, and is the leading college preparatory school in the Coachella Valley.

See this Uproariously Funny, Jet-Propelled Mid-Century Modern Comedy Classic!!
Palm Springs, CA – Fresh from their big wins at the Desert Theatre League’s 2010-2011 Desert Star Awards (Five Awards for A TUNA CHRISTMAS), and their highly successful run of the hit musical PLAID TIDINGS in November, Coyote StageWorks returns to the Annenberg Theater this coming February with the Tony Award-Winning comedy BOEING-BOEING. Kick off Modernism Week with this high-flying, 1960’s romp.
BOEING-BOEING, written by Marc Camolleti, and translated by Beverly Cross and Francis Evans, originally ran in London for seven years. Revived on Broadway in 2008, Boeing won two Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Play. The Coyote StageWorks’ production, directed by James Gruessing, stars Coyote StageWorks’ members, David Engel (as Bernard – an American architect living in Paris, and juggling THREE flight attendant fiancées) and Larry Raben (as Bernard’s old school friend, Robert.)
With a plot that’s as fast-paced as a busy airport, BOEING-BOEING delivers jet-propelled laughs in a sexy, retro romp. Just imagine: The year is 1964. Professional playboy, Bernard, is engaged to not one, but three gorgeous airline stewardesses; one American (TWA), one Italian (Alitalia) and one German (Lufthansa.) Aided by his long-suffering housekeeper, Berthe, and a copy of the airline’s flight schedules, Bernard juggles his romantic arrivals and departures with fine-tuned precision, much to the awe and envy of his devastatingly shy, old friend Robert. All this is about to change, though, and Bernard’s love life is about to hit comic turbulence when all three of his fiancées are rescheduled to the newer, faster Boeing jets and they all arrive at his apartment at the same time! BOEING-BOEING arrives at the Annenberg Theater on February 16th. But grab your boarding passes quick! There are only five special performances and the lay-over only lasts through February 19th.

In celebration of Three Kings Day, domestic workers will dress up as the Three Queens and immigrant children will create “foot prints” to send to State Senator Padilla asking his support for household worker rights.
Los Angeles –Three Kings Day is a joyous and fun-filled family tradition. The men in costume and beard are meant to represent the “wise men” who in the Bible followed a star to Bethlehem where the baby Jesus had just been born, bearing gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Families will celebrate the “Tres Reyes Magos” as they are known in Spanish and will ask for two additional gifts this year: domestic worker rights and no family separations through deportations.
WHAT: Three Kings Day celebration with household workers dressed as “Three Queens”, carols, candy distribution, street theatre, baby Jesus set up, and making of baby “foot prints”, a gift to be sent to CA State Senator Padilla urging his enthusiastic support for the California Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. A large traditional bread cake (“rosca”) will be cut and eaten by all.
WHEN: Friday, January 6, 2012, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
WHERE: Our Lady of Holy Rosary Church, 7802 Vineland Ave., Sun Valley, CA 91352, Auditorium
WHO: Three Queens, household workers, immigrant families, students, workers, children. Children of domestic workers will speak about instances during which they spent their holidays away from moms because they were working inside a home or tending to a family employer.
VISUALS: Three household workers dressed as The Three Queens will bring gifts to a baby Jesus set up in the auditorium. Children will create “foot prints” which will be mailed to California State Senator Padilla urging his active support for the CA Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. Children will receive candy satchels with copy of the CA Bill of Rights and will call for their moms to be treated with fairness. Families will call for family unity in light of so many deportations under the Obama Administration. Cutting and eating of the “rosca” bread.
Votes in Iowa Wednesday night might have put Ron Paul in third place just behind Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum, but strategists for the Texas congressman are citing a victory nonetheless.
According to the Ron Paul camp, the steam that surged Rick Santorum to the top tier in recent days is staggering and the former Pennsylvania senator will be unable to show any success continuing out of Iowa. Instead, rather, the Republican Party will be left with only two choices in the months leading up to the GOP National Convention: Ron Paul and Mitt Romney.
Mitt Romney has remained a frontrunner since he first threw his hat in the race for the Republican Party’s nomination. Only in recent weeks has an explosive campaign from Santorum’s camp managed to help the senator soar to the top-tier. With poor polling in the months prior and a well of funding now drying up, however, Santorum’s esteem among the GOP can expect to soon shrivel.
While Romney’s popularity has plateaued through his campaign and has secured him the title of frontrunner, Santorum’s rise in the polls has only occurred in recent weeks and had so far followed the same cycle that previously propelled Rick Perry, Michele Bachmann and Newt Gingrich to the top of the polls. In the months leading up to caucus day, however, Ron Paul has only surged in popularity and has campaign predicts that he will only pick up more steam on the road to the White House.
