On Sunday, June 3, 2012, at approximately 5:13 p.m., deputies from the Apple Valley Station responded to a reported domestic disturbance in the 12400 block of Kiowa Rd. When deputies arrived, no one answered the door. Due to the nature of the call, deputies went in the residence through an unlocked door to check the welfare of anyone inside.
Inside the residence, deputies found the victim and suspect hiding in a bathroom. The suspect was arrested for PC 273.5 Domestic Violence/Spousal Abuse and was placed into the patrol car. When the deputy returned to the residence circumstances caused the deputy to discharge a duty weapon toward the victim. The victim received a non life-threatening graze at type wound to her left ankle from a bullet fragment which was treated at the scene by paramedics.
The Sheriff’s Homicide Detail shooting team responded to conduct the investigation, which is a standard procedure for an officer involved shooting. The case is currently under investigation and when completed will be submitted to the District Attorney for review.

Christopher Green was driving east on Yucca Trail approaching Hanford Ave. following a red Honda Civic occupied by three local juveniles. The driver of the Honda stopped on Yucca Trail preparing to turn left onto Hanford Ave. Green did not notice the Honda stop, and collided with the Civic from behind. After the collision, Green fled the scene without stopping.
Numerous calls to the Sheriff’s Department from the public and the use of a Sheriff’s helicopter led to Green’s vehicle being located and Green being identified.
Approximately, six hours after the collision, Green turned himself into Sheriff’s Deputies. Green was arrested and booked for CVC 20001(a), Felony Hit and Run.
He is currently being held and the Morongo Basin jail with a bail of $50,000. The juvenile occupants of the Civic were transported to the hospital for treatment. The collision is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT).

When I came to Desert Hot Springs in the 90’s Cabot’s was ready to be ‘Cater-pillared’ back into the earth it was created from. All this creative work and art of Cabot Yerxa and with it, the history of Desert Hot Springs bulldozed away in a blink of an eye.
Lucky for all of us, this never happened. Instead, some dedicated and far-sided and enterprising folks came up with this great idea and created the Cabot’s Yerxa Museum.
Last night, a huge crowd of Cabot’s fans and supporters came out to party and to celebrate the final victory, the recognition and the placement of the Museum into the national register. It was a wonderful night. The atmosphere was happy; people laughed, and enjoyed the wine and great food and the western music. The Cabot’s Foundation Board and Barbara ad Jerry Keller the honorary Co-chairs, did a first-class job hosting ‘an evening at the pueblo’.

Desert Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce honored outstanding teachers from the various Desert Hot Springs Schools at its leadership breakfast on Wednesday May 30, 2012. The breakfast was held at the Mission Lakes Country Club restaurant, with its beautiful view of the valley and mountains.
The teachers received certificates of recognition from Mayor Yvonne Parks, glass apple awards from Chamber President Russ Augustine and Office Depot gift baskets were presented br Aristotle McDaniel. Two night/Three day hotel accommodations from Miracle Springs Resort & Spa as well as Day Spa certificates from Hacienda Hot Springs Inn & Spa were presented by Heather Coladonato Executive Director of the Chamber.

(Palm Springs, Calif., June 1, 2012) – Nicole Hernandez, age 25, has been training since January to run the “Mayor’s Marathon” in Anchorage, Alaska on June 23, 2012. She has been collecting sponsors and raising awareness along the way.
Hernandez’s passion to fight cancers, such as Leukemia and Lymphoma began when she lost a cousin to cancer in 2002. Since then, Hernandez has participated in Relay for Life and Hike for Hope numerous times; Light the Night for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society; and America’s Finest City Marathon in San Diego to fight pancreatic cancer. This will be the farthest Hernandez has ever traveled to support her cause.
“Part of beating this disease is raising awareness about it,” said Hernandez. “I appreciate all of the people who organize and participate in events like the Alaska Marathon because they raise money for research and treatment, plus they increase people’s knowledge and support. It also lets people know who are battling these illnesses that others are fighting for them. I hope that my participation in Team will help bring more people hope.”
This time in her effort, Hernandez joined a running team training in Temecula (because there was not a team in the desert). Hernandez and her mentor are looking into forming a team here in the desert and become a mentor herself. Since January, she has driven to Temecula at least twice a month to train. The certified coaches there also assist with nutrition advising and injury prevention. Hernandez started running regularly two years ago, so between trips to Temecula, she maintains a workout routine in the desert.

If ever a TV genre needed to be spoofed it’s the mindless and vapid “reality show”. The death of scripted TV dramas or comedies can be directly traced back to the last Writer’s strike. Without the writer’s words, the producers were forced to resort to filming outlines of show ideas with the reality contestants sometimes supplying the ad-libbed dialogue and improvised situations. It wasn’t a pretty picture then, and now that the format has grown into a staple of the industry, it’s still not a pretty picture. It’s just more of the same mindless and vapid (but less costly to produce) genre, ad nauseam.
The world premiere of the Old Globe’s new romantic comedy musical “Nobody Loves You”, now onstage at the Sheryl and Harvey White Arena Stage, is a welcome and necessary antidote to television’s plethora of reality shows. The story very cleverly takes on the shallowness of reality shows; stripping them bare in music and song that leaves the audience in stitches pleading for more. With nineteen songs, some of them blisteringly funny and on-the-nose, the production (with music and lyrics by Gaby Alter and libretto and lyrics by Itamar Moses), comes sparklingly alive under the direction of Michelle Tattenbaum. What a creative trio! Of course it helps, and becomes much easier to entertain an audience, when one has eight very talented actor/singer/dancers to throw into the mix.
The story and the music take the audience on a hilarious, behind-the-scenes ride through reality television and into real life. When Jeff (Adam Kantor) a philosophy grad student, joins a dating show to win back Tonya (Nicole Lewis) his ex, he breaks all the rules and tries to blow the game wide open… until he meets Jenny (Jenni Barber). In a world where every kiss is staged for the cameras the musical asks the question: Can two people find a real connection toward enduring love? The answer to that vexing interrogative is the stuff and substance of “Nobody Loves You”… and they get the job done – without an intermission – in about 90 hilarious minutes.
The high-energy cast members, all of whom have impeccable comedy timing, make the fun-filled ride totally entertaining. Leading the way in this faux TV show romp is Heath Calvert, playing to the hilt the handsome, shallow, and very self-obsessed Byron, the show’s M.C. The ditzy, but sexy, Lauren Molina shines as Megan. Her “Come On In” (into a hot tub, that is) number is deliciously seductive, and just wears down Kelsey Kurz as Chris and his resolve to keep their relationship at a respectful, acceptable distance for a conflicted Christian young man (the poor fellow never had a chance).
Adam Kantor as Jeff and the fetching Jenni Barber as Jenny, ostensibly the two romantic leads, are kindred spirits who connect on the TV show. He’s a grounded philosophy doctoral candidate, who becomes a contestant with a penchant for breaking the rules to make a point. And she’s a story editor on the TV show, but a person who really wants to make movies. It’s only a matter of time before they “really” discover one another, and who they want to be, and move up to the next level.
Alex Brightman, plays a trio of characters, but seems to hit the right note as the stoner roommate of Jeff, although his number as Evan “The Twitter Song” scored big with the opening night audience. Kate Chadwick Morgan, in two roles, and Nicole Lewis in three, supply solid support in this very clever and timely musical spoofing of the reality show genre. Today’s entertainment news out of Hollywood, however, confirms that more reality TV shows are on the radar screens of television producers (ugh, and I’m a member of the Academy too).
The creative team led by director Michelle Tattenbaum, along with Gaby Alter (music and lyrics) and Itamar Moses (libretto and lyrics), benefit greatly from the creative inputs of: Michael Schweikardt’s scenic design, Tyler Micoleau’s, eye-popping lighting designs, Emily Pepper’s costume designs, Paul Peterson’s ever-reliable sound design, along with music director Vadim Feichtner, and choreography by Mandy Moore.
